wanted

Wanted, to put in simple terms, is soooo kick-ass. it's like a mash-up of "Shoot 'Em Up" crazy gun fights, "300" visceral intensity and the visual effects of "The Matrix". and even though a lot of the things done on Wanted seems so unrealistic, that's also the reason why i liked it so much. the movie just brings you to another level of big screen adrenaline rush because of the out of this world tricks it provides.

for those who have read the comic books to where this movie was based might not find not much similarity from the source. only the beginning (the premise til the training part) and the end part (the last page of the series to be exact) are what seems to be taken from the comics. although the whole "villains have taken over the world" theme of the comics would have been very much interesting to be transferred into the big screen, i think the loom of fate group of assassins approach of the movie is interesting in its own way. although i would have shit in my pants if i ever saw Shit-Face on screen on this movie.

so, the story is about Wesley Gibson (Hollywood's new "it" boy, James McAvoy), a nobody who thinks he's the most insignificant asshole in the world, (who is also being such a pussy about confronting his annoying fat-ass boss and the girlfriend who cheats on him with his bestfriend) and how he is transformed into a bad-ass assassin when he is recruited by The Fraternity, led by Sloan (Morgan Freeman), when his absentee daddy (who he never got to know about) is killed by a rouge member of the group. so he joins the group, leaves his miserable life, trains his ass off and is itching to off the dude who killed his daddy-o.

the action sequences are the big deal on this movie. the cars, bullets, the heads being blown off, the curving bullets and the crazy gunfights, all these are so well choreographed and is just so much fun. that russian director, timur bekmambetov, really does know how to create crazy shots with his camera. i haven't seen his other movies (Night Watch and Day Watch), but after seeing Wanted, i think i really should do myself a favor and watch his other movies.

James McAvoy does a really good job on making us root for his character. he makes us sympathize and feel for his sorry ass situation because a lot of us is just like him. a lot of us are just the same everyman that he is. and his transformation from being a pathetic little loser to a bad ass is believable. Angelina Jolie is still as sexy as ever but her presence in this movie seems a bit, i don't know, subdued? she seems to be just lurking there in many scenes. although she is so bad ass when she needs to be. and Morgan Freeman just have the best one liners in the movie. its really interesting watching him saying "kill this motherfucker!" with such authority. he is the man.

now, this movie might not be the greatest film you've seen but this is definitely one of the best movie experience you'll have. it's never boring and is totally going to blow your socks off. its violently good and i love it for that.
